A Look at La Jolla (six flags theme parks)

By Mauro Suarez

Attracting tourists from all over the world, La Jolla’s community is one that combines trends with traditional class. Located 12 miles north from downtown San Diego, this highly prosperous community offers seven miles of coastline at an elevation of 110 feet. The land here is so desired that it’s impossible to find property in La Jolla for less than 1.25 million an acre!

The lucky 38,000 plus who live in this heavenly seaside town live among Mediterranean style architecture with a unique flair. From the crashing waves along the shore to the high rise buildings in the business district, you can expect everything in La Jolla to be first rate quality.

Business district Even though La Jolla is mostly known for its incredible shoreline, the city’s business district is hardly modest to say the least. Located to the east in La Jolla, there are professional centers, financial buildings, law firms, and technological industries that dominate this district.

There are also modern shopping centers here as well, along with a wealthy residential area. The world renowned Scripps Memorial Hospital & Medical Research Center is here as well as the San Diego Mormon Temple - a remarkable 59,000 square foot building that resembles a large ice sculpture.

The Village The downtown area of La Jolla offers shops, hotels, boutiques, restaurants, coffee houses, salons, and art galleries. Even though this area is rather small, the district is full of trendy establishments that draw wealthy visitors from all over the world.

Girad Avenue is the main street of La Jolla, even though Prospect Drive is known as “Rodeo Drive” in San Diego.

Shoreline Although the business area and La Jolla Village are both impressive communities, the most memorable region in La Jolla is the areas and communities along the Pacific shoreline.

La Jolla offers some of the most impressive shore lines in Southern California, with remarkable caves, cliffs, beaches, and sunsets. The best view of La Jolla can be seen from the air. Daring visitors can take in La Jolla via the Torrey Pines Gliderport and learn flying. If you seek a more tame view of the coastline, try the scenic drive along North Torrey Pines Road.

All along the coastline, La Jolla offers you a first rate shopping district. You can visit jewelry stores, art galleries, souvenir shops, and fashionable boutiques. Once you have been shopping, you can complete the day by dining above the water of the Pacific.

From the art galleries and trendy shops to the world class golf courses, La Jolla has attractions to please tourists from all over the world. Each district is unique, yet they are all similiar when it comes to quality. You won’t find anything short of the best when you visit the best Southern California has to offer.

The Wonders of California

By Renaldo Head

There was a fun song that came out in the nineteen sixties that had the refrain “I don’t care what you say I won’t stay in a world without love.” Is it even possible to imagine what a world would be like if we didn’t have such a place as wonderful as California? I know imagining America without a California alone is almost impossible to do.

California is so rich with sights and great places to visit that one has to plan not one but many trips there to truly take in all it has to offer. Why a visit to Los Angeles alone can fill a week and you would still leave behind so much to do and see. Here in the home of our great movie industry, the idea of hanging out near the major studios to catch a glimpse of a movie star is pretty hard to resist. And you can pass your time waiting by going to Grauman’s Chinese Theater to put your own feet in the famous imprints on the walk of fame. There you can see if your shoe size lines up with such greats as Marilyn Monroe, Marlin Brando, Dustin Hoffman or even Lassie.

While in LA don’t forget that this is the area of the country where you can check in at the original Disneyland. Yes while the Florida and other locations that have been built since then are wonderful, don’t miss the chance to sing “It’s a Small World After All” with the anamatronic figures that will delight you and your children in those historic rides in Disneyland.

Anywhere you go up and down the California coast, one thing will continue to draw your eye is the amazing California coast. The sight of those waves making huge breakers on the rocks and beaches has been the object of art for many painters over the years. If you live in a land-locked state or even if you have enjoyed the coast lines in the gulf states and the eastern seaboard, the California surf will be yet another viewpoint of the majesty of God’s creation in the oceans that grace our fair country.

It might take another whole trip to enjoy the exotic locations all around the city of San Francisco. But give it that time because this is a town you want to take in on foot or by traveling on their famous and historic street cars. For a small city, San Francisco will charm you so thoroughly that you would swear you were in one of the quant and charming villages of Europe, Spain or Greece. The sight of those breath taking hills that the residents have to drive each day will probably bring back some great movie you saw that was filmed there. And it’s easy to get goose bumps standing on the corner of Haight and Ashbury and reflect on the birth of the Hippy Movement in the early sixties right on that spot.

There is just so much to do up and down this big and diverse state that you will want to have a car at your disposal just to tour the paradise like conditions that residents enjoy there every day. A tour of the wine country in northern California is another experience that has become famous for charming visitors of all ages. You can even retrace the voyage of the characters in the movie Sideways which won an Academy Award and further added to the lore and fame of this wonderful part of California.

California may not steal your heart away from your home town and state. But one this is for sure. Your trip to California will leave you with dozens of exciting memories and it will leave you with something even more lasting. You will come home with a determination that you have to get back to California and continue to enjoy the many treats this great American state has to offer.

Vietnam Cruise Tour

By Jenny Su

With about 2,021 miles of sea coast, the Red River Delta in the north and the Mekong Delta in the south, Vietnam is not short of water. And what better way to take advantage of these resources, than by taking a cruise?

The Red River has its source in China’s Yunnan province, from where it flows east, entering Vietnam at Lao Cai then winding for more than 500 km through northern Vietnam, passing by Hanoi, before emptying into the Gulf of Tonkin. The river is essential to the lives of the peoples of this part of Vietnam and beyond. The river provides the irrigation for nearly half the country’s rice production. The delta is the hub of all economic activity in the north of Vietnam, where the majority of the region’s population is concentrated. The importance of the river is reflected in its Vietnamese name, Song Cai, meaning Mother River.

On either side of the river lie ethnic community villages and farming communities who have lived in this area for thousands of years. Cruises on the river, usually starting from Hanoi, will stop and give you the opportunity to visit the local villages and their handicraft markets. You can also visit nearby historic pagodas. Normally, meals will be served on board your cruise vessel.

South East Asia’s greatest river, the mighty Mekong, is the world’s 10th-longest river. Rising in the Tibetan Plateau, it flows through China’s Yunnan Province, Burma, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia before opening out into the fertile Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam.

Sampans, made from the local go sao, the wood traditionally used for building quality ships, offer cruises to suit every visitor. Most sampans have private, air-conditioned rooms on either side of the ship, with a restaurant in the centre and a sun deck above. Here you can relax and watch the world float by. You can visit a visit a cat fish farm (the Mekong is famous for its catfish).

French writer Marguerite Duras spent some of her childhood in the town of Sadec and her story, The Lover, is set here and in 1992 was made into a successful movie. Movie lovers can visit the sights where it was shot. Nearby is Cai Be with its floating market, where you can go ashore to visit delightful flower gardens, the ancient Kiet House and local rice paper manufacturers. From here it is a starlit overnight cruise to bustling Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

But Vietnam’s premier tourist attraction, the Jewel in the Crown, is undoubtedly the stunning Halong Bay to the east of Hanoi. Literally thousands of islands rise from the sea in karst formations. The area is host to a diversity of ecosystems including offshore coral reefs, freshwater swamp forests, mangrove forests, small freshwater lakes, and sandy beaches.

Traditionally shaped junks, but with modern facilities, offer cruises around this mystical bay. You can stay in your room and watch the karst, limestone islands go by, or stop and spend some time swimming on a quiet beach such as at Soi Sim Island. You can also visit the floating villages and floating markets and it is worth visiting Lan Ha Bay to the south of Halong to visit a traditional fishing village.

The memory of the place will be etched in your mind forever.
